Ted Gulyas was a four year starting defensive back for DU’s football team and a four year letterman for the Big Red baseball squad.

Gulyas received All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition for his football performance three times, earning honorable mention status as a sophomore and junior, and being named as a first-team defensive back his senior year. Also as a senior, Gulyas served as co-captain of the Big Red football team along with team MVP and DU Hall of Famer Ed Exler ’73. Gulyas set and continues to hold Denison records for most interceptions in a single season (9).

Honored as DU’s Most Efficient Back Twice, he led the OAC in interceptions his senior year and set a conference record for career interceptions. Gulyas also doubled as a punt-return specialist for the Big Red. His four-year baseball career was highlighted by his election as team captain as a senior for the 1973 season.
