Prior to his retirement, Dale Googins served for 37 years (1961-98) as the head athletic trainer at Denison. He was also an associate professor of physical education. Googins earned many awards during his career, including the Sertoma Club’s Service to Mankind Award in 1982; induction into the Ohio Athletic trainers Association Hall of Fame; the Dan Libera Award by National Athletic Trainers Association for outstanding service in 1996; Trainer of the Year in Ohio in 1987; the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the National Athletic Trainers Association in 1998; and Special Recognition by Ohio Athletic Trainers Association for Lifesaving Techniques in 1998.

Over the years, Googins has been very active in the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, the Great Lakes Athletic trainers Association, the National Athletic Trainer Association and the National Athletic trainers Association Board of Certification. He has also served on the Granville Recreation Commission and Granville Baseball Commission. Dale earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University.
