He was named DU’s Outstanding Back three times and Denison’s MVP in 1986.

Spriggs was also an All-NCAC selection in 1984, ’85 and ’86, and earned the Mike Gregory Award in both ’85 and ’86 as the conference’s MVP. He was also honored as a three-time All-American following his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

As a single wing tailback, Spriggs still holds school records for the longest touchdown pass (82 yards), most yards rushing (4248) and most yards of total offense (7074). His 7,074-rushing/passing yards still stand as a NCAC record.
