Earl "Bud" Giffin lettered in both football and baseball while attending Denison.  He was a versatile football player who was dubbed a “passer supreme”, but was known just as well for his extraordinary running ability.  During his senior football season, Giffins’s duties included punting, place kicking, and returning punts and kickoffs.  He still holds the Denison school record for most touchdown passes thrown in a game.  In 1939, Giffin tossed five touchdowns in a game against Wooster.  He was also named AP All-Ohio Honorable Mention his senior year.  Giffin was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Denison.

After graduation, Earl served eight years in the Air Corps during World War II and flew 52 combat missions as a flight leader in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations.  He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and several air medals during his tour.  Giffin was discharged as a Lt. Colonel in September of 1948.

Giffin retired from the Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation in December of 1986.
