Charlie Claggett stood as Denison’s all-time leading career scorer in basketball until he was passed by Dan Hodgkinson in 2007.  Claggett scored 1,837 points over a career that extended from 1966-70.  He paced Denison to the Ohio Conference cage title in 1968 by netting 622 points (27.0 points per game) which is the school record for most points in a season.  Charlie also holds school records for single-game field goals made (17), single-season free throws made (174) and attempted (237), career scoring average (23.0) and career field goals made (692).

As a sophomore, Claggett posted six double-doubles and led the team in scoring in 21 of 23 games to help Denison reach the NCAA Regional Tournament.  A three-time Denison Most Valuable Player, he also earned All-Ohio Conference first team honors for three consecutive years and was picked to the NCAA All-Mid-East team in 1968.  As a senior, he played in the Ohio-Indiana All-Star game and earned Academic All-American recognition.
