Steffie Wright Crowther excelled in tennis at Denison, holding down the team's No.1 singles position all four years. In the annual Ohio Intercollegiate Tennis championships, Crowther was a women’s singles finalist each of her four years, and she won the 1972 state championship title her senior year. As a freshman, Crowther was a singles quarterfinalist in the 1969 Middle States Intercollegiate Tennis Championships singles. She was also ranked as one of the top six players on the Middle States Tennis Association’s Women’s Sears Cup team.

As a student at Denison, Crowther was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was one of the first four university senators and was the Denisonian’s managing editor from 1970-71. Crowther was also a member of the Long Range Planning Committee and subsequent Priorities Council throughout her college career from 1968-72. Crowther graduated from Denison summa cum laude with a double major in French and German. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior after being a member of Phi Society her freshman year.
