Adam Mandel is a four-year letter winner and two-time All-American for the Big Red baseball team from 2001-04. A core member during the most successful span in Denison baseball history, Mandel was a four-year starter in the outfield who boasted a career batting average of .430.
Mandel was named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2001 after batting .397 with 48 runs scored in 40 starts. He returned in 2002 and earned second-team all-conference honors after batting .386 while helping his team to a 20-16 record.
The 2003 and 2004 seasons would prove to be the breakout seasons not only for Mandel, but for Denison baseball as a whole. Those teams would post back-to-back 31-win seasons, shattering the previous school record for victories in a season. Mandel hit a career-high .474 in 2003 and would follow by batting .462 as a senior. He was a first-team All-Mideast Region pick in both seasons and would be named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-America third-team as well.
Mandel is Denison’s career leader in hits (254), doubles (55), triples (12), total bases (363), runs scored (191), and batting average (.430). He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player three times, and in 2004 he capped off his career by being named to the Academic All-America third-team.
After Denison, Mandel went on to play two seasons of professional baseball with the San Diego SurfDawgs of the Golden Baseball League. In 2010, he received his M.B.A. from Washington University’s Olin Business School.
