Brendan Herlihy was a two-time national champion and 22-time All-American for the Big Red swimming and diving team between 1994 and 1998. In 1996, Herlihy captured NCAA Division III national championships in the 500-yard freestyle and as a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team. Through his four years as a qualifier for the national championship meet, Herlihy and the Big Red never finished lower than third, nationally. In 1996, Denison’s men’s swimming and diving team was the national runner-up for the second time in school history.

In addition to his 22 Division III All-American certificates in his four trips to nationals, Herlihy was a three-time North Coast Athletic Conference champion, winning the 200-yard freestyle twice, and the 800-yard freestyle relay once. He also was a member of Denison’s very first NCAC Championship squad in 1997. A four-year letter winner and four-time All-NCAC selection, Herlihy served as team captain in 1998 and was named the team’s Most Valuable Swimmer as a sophomore in 1996.
