Tamara (Carty) Tenney is a three-year letter winner and four-time national champion as a member of the Big Red women’s swimming team from 1999-2002.  In Carty’s final two years at Denison, she solidified herself as the top distance freestyle swimmer in all of Division III by capturing back-to-back national championships in the 1650-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

In addition to Carty’s four individual national championships, she totaled nine All-American performances, and in 2001 her outstanding showing in the distance freestyle events and the 400 individual medley would play a pivotal role in helping Denison capture the University’s first NCAA Division III team national championship.

Carty was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year in 2000 and 2001 and was a six-time conference champion.  She left Denison as the NCAC and school record-holder in the 1,650 free with a time of 16:56.53.

An elite scholar, Carty was the 2003 Denison valedictorian and was a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.  She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was named one of seven Denison Presidential Medalists in 2003.  While at Denison, Carty was a Philosophy department Fellow and a tutor.

After Denison, Carty received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003.
