Named in honor of former Big Red lacrosse midfielder Rick Kienzle '85 and his wife, Cindy, along with Paul Hylbert '66 and his wife, Katharine, Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium officially opened for the 2024 spring season as the new home of Denison University's men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's soccer programs. The university celebrated the dedication of the state-of-the-art facility on April 13, 2024, in conjunction with the women's lacrosse game against Oberlin.
Constructed as part of a $5.5 million investment in Denison Athletics, Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium features a multi-purpose synthetic turf playing surface, stadium lighting, permanent grandstand seating, a modern press box, high-definition video scoreboard, enhanced sound system, and improved fan amenities. Designed to serve both championship competition and daily student-athlete development, the facility has quickly become one of the premier soccer and lacrosse venues in NCAA Division III.
Since opening in 2024, Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium has established itself as a postseason destination, hosting 13 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament games across men's and women's soccer and lacrosse, as well as numerous NCAA Tournament contests in men's soccer and women's lacrosse. The facility continues to provide an outstanding championship atmosphere for student-athletes, fans, and the Granville community.
The stadium stands on the historic site of Barclay-Thomsen Field, and Denison continues to honor the enduring legacy of legendary coaches Ted Barclay and Tommy Thomsen, whose contributions helped shape Big Red Athletics for generations. Their impact remains an important part of the stadium's identity and the continued success of Denison's soccer and lacrosse programs.
