WOOSTER, Ohio (Jan. 25) – The Denison women's track and field team had an outstanding performance at the Fighting Scots Invitational hosted by the College of Wooster. The Big Red earned a second-place team finish with 94 points, highlighted by several event wins and top finishes across the board. Anaya Jolivette finished at the top of multiple events to help push the Big Red to a second-place team finish.
Sprints
Denison's sprinters were a force to be reckoned with. Anaya Jolivette captured first place in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.88 seconds. Jolivette returned with teammates Ava Sinex, Lillian Wallace-Larkin, and Mira Renaldi to earn a second place finish in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:47.09, just three-thousandths of a second behind Oberlin.
Sydney Brown finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a final time of 9.62. Renaldi returned for the 400-meter dash and finished third in 1:07.30.
Denison's 4x400-meter relay team of Renaldi, Brown, Abby McChesney, and Alexis Verdell capped off the meet with a strong second-place finish, posting a time of 4:24.30.
Field Events
In the field events, Sydney Flores delivered a clutch performance in the shot put, taking first place with a throw of 11.69m (38-04.25). Mariel Drost added key points with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw, marking 13.56m (44-06.00).
In the pole vault, Cate Gagnier cleared 3.05m (10-00.00) to secure second place, while Evangelina Sparks finished fourth at 2.60m (8-06.25).
Jolivette led the Big Red jumps squad with a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.99m (16-04.50).
Distance
Verdell saw success in her distance event as well earning fourth place in the mile with a time of 5:32.08.
Denison will look to carry their momentum into next week's competition as they host a dual meet with The College of Wooster on Thursday January 30.
