Flores Named Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, Big Red Take Fourth at NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Gambier, Ohio - Senior Sydney Flores won the shot put and discus event en route to being named the NCAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, and senior Emily Brennan also won the 400-meter hurdles to round out a day of champions for the Big Red. Denison finished fourth with a total of 105 points, finishing behind third place Ohio Wesleyan who had 149.5, and ahead of Wittenberg, who had 102. New member John Carroll won with a total score of 190.

Flores became an eight-time All-NCAC recipient today after her win in the shot put event, beating out second-place by 0.01m for a mark of 12.96m to take home 10 points and her second win of the outdoor championship. First-year Hannah Grudzien scored three points in her first outdoor shot put event, throwing for a mark of 11.13m, and first-year Gabrielle Turner was right behind with a mark of 11.08m for two points and seventh place.

Senior Emily Brennan became an eight-time All-NCAC performer with her win in the 400-meter hurdles, as she placed second in the event last year. She ran a personal-best of 1:02.20 to gather 10 points and secure her first win in the event at the championships.

Sophomore Mira Renaldi earned All-NCAC honors after posting a time of 14.57 in the 100-meter hurdles for six points. She would also place eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.53. Senior Sydney Brown also gathered points, securing seventh with a time of 15.47 for two points.

Sophomore Julia Schena notched five points with a fourth-place mark in the triple jump and high jump, securing a mark of 11.10m in the triple, and a 1.56 mark in the high jump. Junior Mariel Drost also recorded a top-five mark in the hammer, tossing for 43.39m and four points.

Shaylee Murdough captured a top-five finish in the 1500-meter run, placing fourth with a time of 4:44.30 for five points. She would also score three points with a sixth-place mark in the 800-meter run (2:20.75). First-year Ryan Singer earned four points for a fifth-place finish with a time of 12.44.

The 4x400 team of Piper Lee, Brennan, Murdough, and Renaldi secured All-NCAC honors after finishing second with a time of 4:00.11. The 4x100 relay squad of Emily Brennan, Stevie Combs, Mira Renaldi, and Ryan Singer placed fourth with a time of 47.96 for five points.
