Big Red Conclude Day One of NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Gambier, Ohio - Senior Sydney Flores won the discus event with a personal-best to highlight day one of the outdoor track and field championships hosted by Kenyon College. The Big Red currently sit fifth in the standings, totaling 32 points. Wittenberg is ahead by point at 33, while Oberlin sits behind with 25 points. Indoor track and field champion John Carroll currently holds first after day one.

Flores won the discus event after she threw for 39.00m for a max of 10 points to lead the Big Red on the day. A total of four Big Red earned points in the discus alone, as first-year Gabrielle Turner (fourth; 37.20m), first-year Hannah Grudzien (seventh; 33.90), and first-year Ryan Singer (eighth; 33.68m) all gathered points for the Big Red.

In javelin, Hannah Grudzien placed second to earn All-NCAC honors, throwing for a mark of 35.06m for eight points.

A total of seven Big Red have qualified for finals tomorrow, as Mira Renaldi qualified in the 100-meter hurdles, and Stevie Combs and Ryan Singer both earned spots in the 100-meter dash. Combs also qualified for the 200-meter dash along with Renaldi in the 400-meter hurdles. Emily Brennan will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles, and Shaylee Murdough will compete in the 800-meter run.
