DELAWARE, Ohio (April 6, 2024) – Led by 10 finishes in the top-five, Denison University women's track & field competed in the 2024 Marv Frye Invitational Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University. Denison finished fifth out of 10 teams with 72 points, trailing Albion College (86 points) in fourth, Baldwin Wallace University (110) in third, Case Western Reserve University (152) in second and the hosts from Ohio Wesleyan (160) in first.
Denison was led by second-place finishes from
Amy Pollack (46.66 meters) in the hammer and
Cara Bodary (18:50.98) with a personal record in the 5,000 meter run.
Sydney Brown was third in the 100 meter hurdles, running a personal record time of 15.94 seconds that ranks eighth on Denison's top-10 PR list while
Ava Sinex was third with a time of 1:09.63 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Lexi Verdell was also third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal record of 12:23.09 that ranks 10th on Denison's PR list.
Denison earned a pair of fourth-place finishes in the throws from
Kylee Silverman (45.74 meters) in the hammer and
Sydney Flores (36.29 meters) in the discus. Flores also added a fifth-place mark of 11.17 meters to lead the Big Red in the shot put.
Denison's 4x400 meter relay team of
Libby Hornick,
Ava Sinex,
Piper Lee and
Fiona Martinelli finished in fourth place at 4:19.73.
Rounding out Denison's top-five finishes was a fifth-place leap of 9.89 meters by
Rainer Yaeger in the triple jump.
TOP-10 FINISHES:
TENNESSEE INVITE: The Denison women sent two athletes to compete at the University of Tennessee Invite in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. In the 200 meter dash on Friday,
Sophia Ellerkmann was 37th with a time of 25.91 seconds while
Anaya Jolivette was 44th at 26.19 seconds. Then on Saturday, Jolivette finished 37th in the 100 meter dash with a season-best time of 12.79 seconds before the weekend ended with a bang from Ellerkmann, who finished 10th in the 400 meter dash with a Denison school record time of 56.30 seconds. Ellerkmann's time breaks the previous record of 56.55 seconds set by Jill Westerfeld in 2001 and is currently ranked No. 4 in all of NCAA Division III this season.
NEXT UP: The Big Red will head back to Ohio Wesleyan for the 2024 All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13.
