GAMBIER, Ohio (April 21, 2024) – Denison University women's track & field garnered one event victory and seven other top-three finishes on Saturday to place fifth overall at the 2024 Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College. The Big Red also competed at the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday at Ohio State University.
 

JESSE OWENS CLASSIC:
Denison's top performance on Friday came from Amy Pollack with a throw of 46.65 meters (153-01) in the hammer, putting her 24th out of 30 in the event. Kylee Silverman was 28th at 42.76 meters (140-03).

Also on Friday, Anaya Jolivette finished 53rd out of 61 with a time of 26.10 seconds in the 200 meter dash.

Then on Saturday, Sophia Ellerkmann finished in eighth place out of 38 competitors with a time of 56.56 seconds in the 400 meter dash.

DUANE GOMEZ INVITATIONAL:
Pollack continued her great weekend by winning the hammer with a long toss of 46.60 meters (152' 10"). Silverman was second in the hammer with a mark of 44.22 meters (145' 1") while Mariel Drost was fourth at 41.01 meters (134' 6").

Sydney Flores led the way with a second-place finish in the shot put at 12.01 meters (39' 5") and a third-place finish in the discus at 37.97 meters (124' 7"), the latter of which was a new personal record. Behind her was Silverman (10.69 meters) in 10th place in the shot put and Drost (31.99 meters) with a personal record in 10th place in the discus.

Lastly in the throws, Sydney Brown was eighth with a mark of 17.15 meters (56' 3") in the javelin.

Leading the way in the track events was Tessa Gerhardt (1:02.22) in second place in the 400 meter dash and Cara Bodary (4:59.94) in second place in the 1,500 meter run. One spot behind Gerhardt in the 400 meter dash was Libby Hornick (1:02.30) in third place.

Hornick and Gerhardt also ran the first two legs of Denison's third-place team in the 4x400 meter relay (4:22.91), which featured Piper Lee and Ava Sinex in the final two legs.

Sinex led the way for Denison in the 100 meter hurdles with a sixth-place time of 17.55 seconds.

Lee (27.96 seconds) and Annelise Bentley (28.39 seconds) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the 200 meter dash while Quinn Greene led the way for Denison in the 100 meter dash with a 10th-place time of 13.92 seconds. Bentley's time in the 200 meter dash was a new personal record as well.

Lastly in the running events, Ava DiMasi was ninth with a personal record time of 2:42.72 in the 800 meter run.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action next Friday, April 26, when they host the 2024 Big Red Invitational at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville. The throwing events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the remaining field events at 2 p.m. and then the track events at 5 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Big Red. The senior recognition ceremony will take place at the stadium at the completion of the meet - approximately 8 p.m.
