GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 3, 2024) – Denison University earned a first-place finish in both the distance medley relay and the 4x200 meter relay and tied for fourth place as a team at the Bob Shannon Invitational. Denison tied with California (Pa.) with 66 points, just 1.5 points behind Wooster in third place with 67.50 points. NCAA Division I Robert Morris won the meet with 197 points, more than 100 points in front of Albion (83.50 points) in second place.
The distance medley relay team of
Fiona Martinelli,
Emily Porter,
Lexi Verdell and
Cara Bodary earned first place with a time of 13:26.61 while the 4x200 meter relay team of
Emily Brennan,
Sophia Ellerkmann,
Anaya Jolivette and
Tessa Gerhardt won with a time of 1:49.68.
In addition, the 4x400 meter relay team of Brennan, Ellerkmann,
Ava Sinex and
Piper Lee finished third with a time of 4:13.31.
Individually on the track, Gerhardt finished fourth with a time of 1:04.12 in the 400 meter dash while Ellerkmann was fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.55 seconds.
Kylee Silverman once again led the way in the field events with a runner-up finish in the weight throw (14.54 meters) and a fourth-place finish in the shot put (11.16 meters) while
Emily Collins (1.45 meters) and
Brooklyn Heller (2.75 meters) added fifth-place finishes in the high jump and the pole vault, respectively.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action next Saturday, February 10, when the Big Red travel to Westerville, Ohio, to compete in the All-Ohio Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Otterbein University.
