KANSAS City, Mo. (Dec. 9) – Following its run to the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals, the postseason awards continue to roll in for the Denison University men's soccer program.
The United Soccer Coaches honored the Denison University coaching staff as its 2024 D-III Men's Region VII Staff of the Year on Monday when the organization announced its regional coaching staffs of the year. This marks the second time that Bianco has guided the staff to the regional award (2021) from the organization.
Led by head coach
Brandon Bianco and assistant coaches
Tyler Gallagher and
Ben Woelfinger, Denison put together a 15-2-6 overall record with an unbeaten 6-0-2 mark in league play to collect the program's third overall NCAC Championship. In eight conference matchups, the Big Red defense allowed a league-low one goal for a minuscule 0.13 goals-against average to go along with an NCAC-best .955 save percentage and seven shutouts. The offense earned a conference-high 52 corners to help produce 54 points on 20 goals and 14 assists.
The Big Red qualified for the NCAA Tournament and picked up three victories to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for just the second time in program history (1979). The NCAA postseason run was highlighted by Denison's 1-0 overtime win over top-ranked Mary Washington in the Third Round on Nov. 23. Denison recorded more NCAA Tournament wins this season (3) than they had in their entire history combined prior (2). This marked the first time in program history that Denison recorded multiple wins in the NCAA Tournament.
In 23 games overall, Denison recorded 142 points on 52 goals and 38 assists, while shutting out 14 opponents and only allowing 12 goals (0.51 GAA) overall.
