WOOSTER, Ohio (January 20, 2024) – The Denison University women's track & field team claimed four wins on the track on Saturday afternoon on its way to a third-place finish at the 2024 Fighting Scots Invitational held at the College of Wooster. Finishing the day with 100.50 team points, the Big Red landed ahead of Kenyon College (83.50 points) and Oberlin College (78 points) in fourth and fifth place, respectively, while Allegheny College earned the win with 140 points and was just two points ahead of Wooster in second place with 138 points.
Denison earned three individual wins from
Sydney Brown (9.82 seconds) in the 60 meter hurdles,
Sophia Ellerkmann (59.10 seconds) in the 400 meter dash and
Cara Bodary (10:56.24) in the 3,000 meter run.
In addition, Ellerkmann,
Libby Hornick,
Tessa Gerhardt and
Ava Sinex combined to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.04. It was Denison's second win in the 4x400 over the last two weeks.
In the 4x200 meter relay,
Piper Lee, Ellerkmann, Hornick and Sinex finished second with a time of 1:48.76.
In the 400 meter dash, Lee (1:04.60) and Hornick (1:05.04) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place while Sinex (1:05.33) and Gerhardt (1:05.39) finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place as well.
Anaya Jolivette (8.41 seconds) tied for third in the 60 meter dash while Brown (28.51 seconds) was fifth in the 200 meter dash.
Also on the track,
Lexi Verdell put together a fifth-place time of 2:33.06 in the 800 meter run while
Fiona Martinelli (2:35.04) was seventh and
Emily Porter (2:36.59) was eighth.
In the field events,
Kylee Silverman was third in both the weight throw (14.55 meters) and the shot put (11.12 meters) while
Stefany Sparks (4.78 meters) also added a third-place finish in the long jump.
