NEW CONCORD, Ohio (January 13, 2024) – The Denison University women's track & field team opened the Spring portion of its 2023-24 indoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Muskie Meet. The Big Red finished with 65 points as a team, just five points in front of Glenville St. in fifth place with 60 points. Seton Hill won the meet with 120 points, followed by Geneva in second with 84 points and Muskingum in third with 74.
Denison's day was highlighted with a win in the 4x400 meter relay by
Libby Hornick,
Ava Sinex,
Lexi Verdell and
Cara Bodary, who together ran a time of 4:29.09.
In the field events,
Kylee Silverman was third in the weight throw at 13.77 meters (45' 2") and seventh in the shot put at 10.90 meters (35' 9¼") while
Amy Pollack was fifth in the weight throw, throwing 12.92 meters (42' 4").
In the long jump,
Stefany Sparks was third at 4.79 meters (15' 8¾") and
Sydney Brown was seventh at 4.55 meters (14' 11¼").
In addition,
Rainer Yaeger was fourth in the triple jump at 9.39 meters (30' 9¾") while
Brooklyn Heller was fifth in the pole vault at 2.75 meters (9' 0¼").
On the track, Brown went from finishing seventh in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles at 10.22 seconds to finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 10.05 seconds. In the same race, Brennan went from finishing eighth in the prelims (10.27) to finishing sixth in the finals (10.16 seconds).
Cara Bodary was fifth in both the 800 meter run (2:35.00) and the one mile run (5:35.29) while behind her,
Aly Marshall (2:38.58) was seventh in the 800 and
Fiona Martinelli (5:48.57) was eighth in the mile.
Lastly, in the 400 meter run,
Tessa Gerhardt was sixth with a time of 1:06.67 while
Ava Sinex was eighth at 1:07.63.
