GAMBIER, Ohio (April 22, 2023) – Denison University women's track and field competed in multiple locations this weekend, taking part in the 2023 Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University on Friday and Saturday afternoon, and also at the inaugural Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier where the Big Red placed fifth as a team.
 
JESSE OWENS CLASSIC:
Denison's top performance on Friday came from Anaya Jolivette with a time of 26.03 seconds in the 200 meter dash.

Then on Saturday, Sophia Ellerkmann was 24th in the 400 meter dash with a new personal record of 58.56 seconds while Erin Anderson was 27th in the 800 meter run at 2:23.46.

In addition, Mikaila Carpenter was also 27th with a throw of 12.44 meters in the shot put.

• Sophia Ellerkmann – 24th place in the 400 meter dash – 58.56 seconds

DUANE GOMEZ INVITATIONAL:
Kylee Silverman won the hammer with a toss of 43.89 meters while Amy Pollack was second at 43.80 meters. Silverman also added a fifth-place finish in the shot put (11.23 meters) and was sixth in the discus (34.62 meters).

Stefany Sparks was second in the long jump with a new career best at 5.08 meters while Catelyn Gagnier was also second in the pole vault at 3.40 meters.

Rainer Yaeger was third in the triple jump at 10.11 meters and was fourth in the long jump at 4.67 meters.

On the track, Lillian Wallace-Larkin was second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.04 seconds while also running the first leg of Denison's second-place 4x400 meter relay team (4:21.14) that also featured Emily Brennan, Sydney Brown and Tessa Gerhardt.

Audrey Corrigan was fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.29 and was sixth in the 1,500 meter run at 5:24.04.

Lastly, Roberta Fisher was third with a time of 20:35.87 in the 5,000 meter run while Brennan was fourth in the 400 meter dash at 1:03.01 and Gerhardt was sixth in the 200 meter dash at 29.37 seconds.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action next Friday, April 28, when they host the 2023 Big Red Invitational at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville. The throwing events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the remaining field events at 2 p.m. and then the track events at 5 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Big Red. The senior recognition ceremony will take place at the stadium at the completion of the meet - approximately 8 p.m.
