GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 4, 2023) –
Catelyn Gagnier won the pole vault and the Big Red won the 4x200 meter relay to lead the Denison University women's track & field team to a second-place finish at the Bob Shannon Invitational. Denison finished with 122 team points while NCAA Division I Robert Morris won the team championship with 186.50 points. NCAA Division II California (Pa.) took third with 80 points while Wooster was fourth with 68.50 points, followed by Washington & Jefferson (51) in fifth, Waynesburg (46.50) in fourth, Muskingum (40.50) in seventh and Kenyon (17) in eighth.
In the field events, Gagnier earned the win in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters while
Tam Dzolic was third in the weight throw at 14.05 meters,
Kylee Silverman was fourth in the shot put at 11.20 meters, and
Rainer Yaeger was sixth in the triple jump at 9.65 meters. Also in the weight throw, Silverman was sixth at 13.41 meters while
Amy Pollack was 10th at 12.49 meters.
Audrey Corrigan (19:55.91) and
Claire Campanelli (20:22.38) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place, respectively, in the 5,000 meter run, to start things off on the track, and then Denison's distance medley relay team of
Aileen Schretzmayer,
Erin Anderson,
Annelise Bentley and
Carolyn Trent finished in second place with a time of 13:51.99 to move the Big Red into second place in the team standings behind only Robert Morris (45.50-43).
Then the Big Red 4x200 meter relay team featuring
Caliyah Bennett,
Fatima Henderson-Bernard,
Lillian Wallace-Larkin and
Sydney Brown won the race with a time of 1:50.99, moving Denison into first place in the team standings momentarily over Robert Morris (53-45.50).
Cara Bodary finished in second place in the one mile run with a time of 5:26.92 as Denison's lead over Robert Morris shrank to 61-60.60, and then Robert Morris took each of the top-two spots in the 60 meter hurdle finals to overtake the Big Red 78.50-66 in the standings. Bennett finished in fourth place for Denison in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.60 seconds after originally taking third in the prelims with a time of 9.29 seconds.
Anderson and
Sophia Ellerkmann finished in fourth and sixth place in the 400 meter dash with times of 1:02.05 and 1:02.92, respectively.
Bennett and Henderson-Bernard both qualified for the 60 meter dash finals before finishing in sixth and eighth place, respectively, with times of 8.17 and 8.42 seconds.
Bodary and Trent finished in fourth and seventh place in the 800 meter run with times of 2:32.69 and 2:47.01, respectively, while Henderson-Bernard was third in the 200 meter dash at 27.66 seconds.
In the 3,000 meter run,
Anna Lindower and
Kate Immesberger took second and fifth place, respectively, with times of 11:13.61 and 12:27.44.
Lastly on the track, Ellerkmann, Anderson, Henderson-Bernard and
Erin Mayle finished third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:12.84.
