GREENCASTLE, Ind. (February 25, 2023) – After conference titles in both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays to go along with four other all-conference performances on Saturday, Denison University women's track & field concluded the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in sixth place. Denison (73 points) finished 17 points ahead of Kenyon (56) in seventh place and trailed fifth-place Wooster (85) by 12 points while Oberlin (88.5) was fourth, DePauw (102.5) was third, Ohio Wesleyan (103) was second and Wittenberg (190) was first.
After beginning the day in seventh place with 18 points through six events, Denison got an eighth-place finish from
Kylee Silverman (11.02 meters) in the shot put to start things off.
In the first track event of the day, the 4x200 meter relay,
Caliyah Bennett,
Fatima Henderson-Bernard,
Lillian Wallace-Larkin and
Sophia Ellerkmann worked together to win the first NCAC title of the meet for the Big Red with a combined time of 1:47.19. Wittenberg was second at 1:47.41.
Then after finishing in third place in the 5,000 meter run on Friday,
Anna Lindower recorded her second all-conference performance of the meet with a time of 5:19.46 in the mile on Saturday, which was again good for third place.
Cara Bodary followed in seventh place with a time of 5:26.78.
Bennett recorded an all-conference performance in the 60 meter hurdles as she finished second with a time of 9.26 seconds, just behind Coral Pierson of Ohio Wesleyan at 9.20 seconds.
Ellerkmann then made it four straight all-conference performances in the track events for the Big Red with a third-place time of 1:00.37 in the 400 meter dash.
Bennett added a fourth-place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.03 seconds before
Erin Anderson earned all-conference honors with a third-place time of 2:23.05 in the 800 meter run. In the 200 meter dash, Henderson-Bernard finished in eighth place with a time of 27.30 seconds.
Denison proceeded to close out the meet in style with a time of 4:08.16 to win the 4x400 meter relay, outrunning DePauw in second place at 4:09.50.
In all for the meet, Denison earned the NCAC title in both the 4x200and 4x400 meter relays and had seven total all-conference performances, including two by Lindower in both the 5,000 meter run (3rd) and the mile (3rd). In addition, Ellerkmann helped account for three all-conference performances after running on both championship relays and finishing third in the 400 meter dash.
