Women's Track and Field

Women’s T&F comes up just short in dual meet at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio (January 26, 2023) – The Denison University women's track & field team tallied seven wins in 14 events, but with the two teams tied going into the final two events, it was the Fighting Scots who earned the seven-point victory (69-62) to win the team's annual indoor track & field dual meet held at the College of Wooster.

Denison won each of the first four events on the track to take over the team lead at the time.

It started with a win by Caliyah Bennett, Fatima Henderson-Bernard, Lillian Wallace-Larkin and Sydney Brown in the 4x200 meter relay (1:48.46).

Then in the one mile run, Denison swept the top-five spots as Anna Lindower (5:24.59) earned the win and was followed by Carolyn Trent (5:56.41) in second, Claire Campanelli (6:08.81) in third, Jessica Coomber (6:18.34) in fourth and Fiona Coleman (6:28.66) in fifth.

Bennett's win in the 60 meter hurdles (9.78 seconds) helped the Big Red tie up the score at 40-40 (nine events scored), and then Denison took the lead at 48-43 (10 events scored) after Sophia Ellerkmann (1:03.34) and Henderson-Bernard (1:04.34) finished in first and second place, respectively, in the 400 meter dash.

Erin-Barbara Adu finished second in the 60 meter dash (8.66 seconds) as Wooster trimmed its deficit down to only one point at 51-50 (11 events scored), and then the Fighting Scots tied it again at 56-56 (12 events scored) after Cara Bodary (2:26.86), Lindower (2:31.92), Trent (2:45.41), Jane Hammond (2:54.41) and Campanelli (3:03.17) finished in order between second and sixth place in the 800 meter run.

Then unfortunately in the 200 meter dash, Denison's third and fourth place finishes allowed Wooster to virtually seal the win by taking a five-point lead at 64-59 (13 events scored) heading int the final event.

Denison finished off the night with a second-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (4:24.20) from the "A" team, consisting of Ellerkmann, Erin Mayle, Wallace-Larkin and Bodary.

In the field events, Denison got wins from Catelyn Gagnier in the pole vault (3.50 meters), Adu in the long jump (4.46 meters) and Rainer Yaeger in the triple jump (9.32 meters).

In the throwing events, Tam Dzolic finished in third place in both the weight throw (13.86 meters) and in the shot put (10.77 meters). Kylee Silverman was also fourth in both events while Amy Pollack was fifth.
