WOOSTER, Ohio (January 21, 2023) – The Denison University women's track & field team traveled to the College of Wooster on Saturday and placed second overall at the 2023 Fighting Scots invitational. Totaling 109 team points on the day, the Big Red finished just two points ahead of Wooster (107) in third place while Wittenberg University won the meet with 151 team points.
Denison got off to a great start on the track, sweeping the top-four spots in the 5,000 meter run as
Anna Lindower (18:49.93) took home the win, followed by
Audrey Corrigan (20:19.23) in second place,
Claire Campanelli (20:34.26) in third place and
Roberta Fisher in fourth place (21:24.60). That helped Denison take over first place in the team standings at the time, 52-47 over Wooster (after six events).
Caliyah Bennett (8.20 seconds; fourth place),
Fatima Henderson-Bernard (8.40 seconds; seventh place) and
Lillian Wallace-Larkin (8.74 seconds; 10th place) each finished in the top-10 of the 60 meter dash while
Sydney Brown was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles at 10.35 seconds.
After 15 events, Denison moved up to second place in the team standings (Wittenberg 151, Denison 101, Wooster 97) after taking four of the top-nine spots in the 200 meter dash, led by a second-place finish by Bennett (27.40 seconds). Behind her was Henderson-Bernard (27.96 seconds) in fourth, Wallace-Larkin (29.01 seconds) in seventh and
Erin-Barbara Adu (29.67 seconds) in ninth.
Also on the track,
Erin Anderson finished in second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.52 while
Cara Bodary finished in third place in the one mile run with a time of 5:33.44.
In the final event of the night,
Sophia Ellerkmann, Henderson-Bernard,
Erin Mayle and Anderson worked together to help Denison finish second in the 4x400 meter relay at 4:24.49.
In the throws,
Tam Dzolic (14.20 meters) and
Amy Pollack (13.10 meters) finished in third and sixth place, respectively, in the weight throw to get the Big Red on the scoreboard, and then Dzolic added a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.05 meters.
Denison got three point-scorers in the long jump as
Stefany Sparks (4.66 meters) was second,
Catelyn Gagnier (4.33 meters) was fifth and Adu (4.21 meters) was seventh.
Lastly for the field events,
Rainer Yaeger finished in third place with a mark of 9.84 meters in the triple jump.
