NEW CONCORD, Ohio (January 14, 2023) – The Denison University women's track & field team opened the Spring portion of its 2022-23 indoor season with a second-place finish out of eight teams at the Muskie Pride Meet. It was the first-ever indoor track & field meet hosted by Muskingum at the new Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.
Headlined by four wins and 17 different top-five finishes in the finals, the Big Red finished with 128 points as a team while West Liberty won it with 146.5 points. Denison's North Coast Athletic Conference foe, Wittenberg University, was third with 103.5 points.
On the track,
Anaya Jolivette won the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 8.00 seconds while
Fatima Henderson-Bernard put together a strong second-place finish and a time of 28.10 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
Henderson-Bernard and Jolivette also ran the first and final legs of Denison's first-place 4x200 meter relay team, which won the event with a time of 1:50.37 and also featured
Lillian Wallace-Larkin in the second spot and
Sydney Brown running in the third position. Wallace-Larkin also finished in fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 65.73 seconds.
In the final event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, Denison's team of Henderson-Bernard,
Erin Anderson,
Erin Mayle and Wallace-Larkin finished in second place with a time of 4:18.62.
Denison also picked up a win in the mid-distance as
Cara Bodary won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35.87.
Anderson (1:22.98) and Mayle (1:25.19) finished back-to-back in second and third place, respectively, in the 500 meter run while Bodary (5:39.80) and
Aileen Schretzmayer (6:02.38) did the same in the mile.
Brown finished first in the 60 meter hurdle prelims before ending fifth in the finals and finishing both races with a time of 10.39 seconds.
Catelyn Gagnier led Denison's performances in the field events with a win and a leap of 3.35 meters in the pole vault.
Stefany Sparks, took third place in the long jump with a mark of 4.82 meters while
Rainer Yaeger finished fourth in the triple jump at 9.68 meters.
Lastly,
Tam Dzolic finished in fourth place in both the weight throw (13.34 meters) and the shot put (10.62 meters).
