GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 29, 2022) – Denison University women's track and field posted three individual victories and 12 other top-four finishes on Friday as it hosted the 2022 Big Red Invitational at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville, Ohio, during what was also Senior Day for the Big Red.
In the shot put,
Leah Ackerman (12.09 meters),
Mikaila Carpenter (11.82 meters), and
Kylee Silverman (11.52 meters) finished in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
In the discus, Denison accounted for half of the top-eight finishers as Carpenter (36.29 meters) was fourth while Silverman (35.65 meters),
Becca Skolnick (35.69 meters) and
Ashley Schmoll (35.22 meters) finished 6-7-8.
Silverman added a third-place finish in the hammer with a mark of 45.74 meters while in the javelin, Schmoll picked up the win with a throw of 32.40 meters and Skolnick was right behind her in second place at 30.31 meters.
Catelyn Gagnier earned a win in the pole vault at 3.50 meters, and rounding out the field events with a second-place finish in the triple jump (10.60 meters) and a fourth-place mark in the long jump (4.80 meters) was
Rainer Yaeger.
On the track,
Erin Anderson won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.99 while
Anaya Jolivette was third in the 100 meter dash after clocking in at 12.93 seconds.
Sophia Ellerkmann (5:04.87) and
Cara Bodary (5:09.20) finished in second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run; and lastly,
Kate Immesberger (11:22.69) and
Michaela Hassler (11:25.94) took fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000 meter run.

- Leah Ackerman: She is an All-Conference performer in the shot put for indoor track & field, and in hammer for outdoor track & field. She currently holds the Denison women's hammer throw school record with a mark of 47.80 meters, a mark that she set at the Wooster Dual Meet a few weeks ago. Other personal records Ackerman has set as a senior include 12.51 meters in the shot put at the Wittenberg Opener, and 15.01 meters in the weight throw at the Bob Shannon Invitational.
- Maya Newman: In addition to setting a new personal record in the 3,000 meter run on Friday with a time of 12:14.88, other personal records she has set as a senior include 21:19.90 in the 5,000 meter run at the NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, 5:44.63 in the 1,500 meter run at the Wooster Dual Meet a few weeks ago, and 13:39.67 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She is also a member of the Big Red's women's cross country team.
- Ashley Schmoll: In additon to winning the javelin with a mark of 32.40 meters on Friday, she placed first in the javelin throw and second in the discus throw at the 2021 NCAC Outdoor Championships, and was third in the discus as a freshman at the 2019 NCAC Outdoor Championships.
- Becca Skolnick: This season, she placed first in the javelin against Wooster, and placed first in the discus throw at the 2019 Kenyon Invitational.
NEXT UP: The Big Red will be back in action next weekend (April 30-May 1) when they travel Oberlin, Ohio, for the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
