GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 5, 2022) – The Denison University women's track & field team tallied 82 team points on Saturday afternoon and placed third overall at the 2022 Bob Shannon Invitational. The Big Red finished ahead of fellow North Coast Athletic Conference schools such as Wooster (79) in fourth place, Ohio Wesleyan (68) in fifth, Kenyon (61) in sixth and Wittenberg (45.50) in seventh, and finished behind only NCAA Division I Robert Morris in second with 109.50 points, and NCAA Division II California (Pa.), which captured the team title with 125 points.
Denison's best individual finishes on the day came from
Catelyn Gagnier, who was second in the pole vault (3.20 meters), and
Erin Anderson, who was second in the 400 meter dash (1:02.13). Additionally, Denison's 4x200 meter relay team of
Caliyah Bennett,
Tessa Gerhardt,
Sophia Ellerkmann and
Rainer Yaeger finished in second place as well with a time of 1:53.78.
Leah Ackerman was third in the weight throw (15.01 meters) and was fifth in the shot put (11.67 meters).
Also in the field events, Yaeger was third in the triple jump at 10.41 meters.
Anaya Jolivette took home a pair of top-five finishes on the track as she was third in the 200 meter dash (27.46 seconds) and was fifth in the 60 meter dash (8.09 seconds).
Also on the track, Ellerkmann was fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:05.46) behind Anderson, and
Michaela Hassler was fifth in the 3,000 meter run (11:36.89).
In the final event of the day, Anderson, Ellerkmann, Gerhardt and
Cara Bodary teamed up in the 4x400 meter relay to place fifth overall with a time of 4:25.59.
