WOOSTER, Ohio (January 22, 2022) – The Denison University women's track & field team traveled to the College of Wooster on Saturday and placed third overall at the 2022 Fighting Scots invitational. Totaling 89 team points on the day, the Big Red finished ahead of fourth-place Kenyon College (76 points) while Wooster won the meet with 147.33 points and Wittenberg University (120.33 points) was second.
The Big Red ended the day with nine top-three finishes, including a first-place finish in the shot put by
Leah Ackerman (11.20 meters).
Denison also had four second-place finishes as
Danielle Wydick did so in the pole vault (3.05 meters), Ackerman did it in the weight throw (14.14 meters) and
Caliyah Bennett did it in the 60 meter dash (8.23 seconds). The Big Red 4x400 meter relay team featuring
Sophia Ellerkmann,
Tessa Gerhardt,
Aileen Schretzmayer and
Cara Bodary finished in second place as well with a time of 4:33.74.
One spot behind Wydick in the pole vault was
Catelyn Gagnier (3.05 meters) in third place, and also in third place, one spot behind Ackerman in the weight throw, was
Tam Dzolic (3.05 meters).
Rainer Yaeger (9.98 meters) was third in the triple jump, and
Aileen Schretzmayer (5:50.81) was third in the one mile run.
Julia Renetzky was the second Big Red runner to finish in the top five in the mile as she was fifth with a time of 6:13.16.
In all, Denison accounted for three of the top five finishers in the weight throw asÂ
Kylee Silverman was fifth (13.11 meters) and had two top-five finishes overall after also doing so in the shot put (10.51 meters).
The Big Red also had three of the top nine runners in the 800 meter run as Ellerkmann (2:35.02) was sixth, Bodary (2:36.88) was seventh and Gerhardt (2:40.84) was ninth.
