GRANVILLE, Ohio (September 14, 2021) – After a 4-0 start to its 2021 season with two shutouts under its belt, the Denison University women's soccer team has been ranked No. 17 in the first regular-season edition of the NCAA Division III United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.
In addition to their national ranking, the Big Red are also ranked second in the NCAA DIII Region VII poll behind only Case Western Reserve University, which is also 4-0.
Denison's most recent match was a 3-2 victory on Saturday, September 11, over Calvin University, which is currently receiving votes in the national poll. It was the third one-goal victory for the Big Red in their first four matches to open the season.
Denison has outscored its opponents 10-3 so far this season, and is being paced offensively by senior
Abby King with three goals and seven points, sophomore
Callie Davis with two goals, and junior Amy Cheiro with two assists. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper
Patil Tcholakian is 3-0 with a .818 save percentage, 17 total saves and one shutout.
The Big Red are currently just over halfway through a six-match homestand to open their season. Next up will be a meeting with Trine University at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, and then on Saturday, September 18, Denison will host No. 16 Centre College in a battle of top-25 nationally-ranked teams.
