Two Big Red Earn Major Awards; Six Players Named to All-NCAC Teams

Granville, Ohio- The North Coast Athletic Conference recently announced this year's All-NCAC teams, and six members of the Denison women's soccer team were named to one of the three teams. Sophomore midfielder Maryn Zavislak and senior defender Sarah Sollinger were awarded two of the major all-conference honors. Sollinger was named Defensive Player of the Year, while her teammate Zavislak earned Midfielder of the Year accolades. This is the first time Denison has taken home these two accolades since 2021, when Abby King (Midfielder of the Year) and Katie Livingston (Defensive Player of the Year). Senior Isabella Guzman and junior Mattie Mielke landed on the second team, while juniors Mara McGlone and Reily Brinley rounded out the Big Red with third team honors.

First Team

Maryn Zavislak (Midfielder of the Year): After earning a spot on the third team her rookie season, Midfielder of the Year Zavislak earned a spot on the all-conference first team after starting in all 19 games this season. She played a crucial role on both sides of the ball, creating scoring opportunities and acting as the first line of defense for the exceptionally strong defensive line. She helped the Big Red defense to seven shutouts this season and a .74 opponent goals per game, which ranked third in the conference. This season, she finished with one game-winning goal in Denison's 5-1 victory over Baldwin Wallace back in September.

Sarah Sollinger (Defensive Player of the Year): For the second consecutive year, Sollinger earned a spot on the All-NCAC first team. The Defensive Player of the Year was the anchor to an impressive defensive line. Starting in all 19 of the Big Red's matchups, Sollinger helped lead Denison to seven shutouts, and the backline gave up just 14 goals across the season.  In seven conference games, Denison had three shutouts and only gave up three goals for an average of .42 goals per game. In her career, Sollinger has played and started in all 69 games in her illustrious career. This is the third time she's been named to an all-NCAC team, which includes a second-team nod for her performance in her sophomore season.

Second Team

Isabella Guzman: Guzman finds herself on All-NCAC's second team for the first time in her career. The senior forward tallied three goals and one assist, with two of those goals coming in back-to-back games. Guzman was third on the team in shots with 32 and shots on goal with 17. She helped pace a Big Red team that netted 25 goals on the season. Guzman wraps up her career with five goals, four assists, and a shot on goal percentage of 48 percent.

Mattie Mielke: The junior midfielder earns her first all-conference nomination, landing second-team honors. Mielke led the Big Red in goals with five, which also ranked top-10 in the conference, and three assists. Starting in all 19 games, of the five goals scored, two were game-winning goals in shutout wins against Roanoke and Rose-Hulman.

Third Team

Mara McGlone: McGlone earned her third All-conference nod of her career, earning a spot on the third team, after her first-team honor last year. In 2023, she was named to the third team. McGlone played in all 19 games, starting in 14, and tallied three goals, including two game-winners. She was tied for third on the team in goals and tied for first on the team in most game-winners with fellow All-NCAC honoree Meilke.

Reily Brinley: Brinley, a 19-game starter, wrapped her junior season with one goal and four assists as a defender, earning her a spot on the all-conference third team. This is the first time in her career that she has earned a spot on an All-NCAC team. Brinley joins fellow defender Sollinger in the Big Red backline, assisting in Denison's seven shutouts and helping hold the conference to just three goals across league play.

Denison wrapped its 2025 season with a 1-0 loss to conference newcomer John Carroll University in the NCAC Tournament Championship game. The Big Red finished the season with an overall record of 9-5-5 and a conference record of 3-1-3.
