INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- Denison women's tennis opened its spring season on Saturday with an 8-1 loss to 10th ranked Chicago. The Big Red entered the match ranked 30th in NCAA Division III and were sixth in the most recent regional rankings. Chicago is the top-ranked team in the region and improves to 4-0 with the win.
The Big Red picked up its lone point in doubles play as Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup knocked off Catherine Xu and Eugenia Lee, 8-5.
Denison entered singles play trailing 2-1. At first singles, Hawley suffered a three-set loss to Marjorie Antohi and Xu defeated Alsup 6-2, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Denison's Hannah Cianciola dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Nicole Semenov.
Denison is back in action on Sunday (Feb. 10) when they take on Division I Butler University in Indianapolis at 10 a.m.
