ALLIANCE, Ohio – Denison women's track and field began their 2019-20 indoor campaign on Saturday afternoon at the annual Toy Drive Invitational held at Mount Union's Pederson Field House.
Highlighted by six, top-10 finishes on the day, the Big Red received a pair of top-fives in the running events, including a third-place finish from Allie Holmes in the 800-meter run when she logged a final time of 2:39.92. In the 400-meter dash, Erin Anderson clocked in at 1:02.89 to land in fifth place and Molly Smith placed 10th overall with a 1:04.39. Sydney Chandler took 15th place after crossing the finish line at 1:09.11.
Smith also competed in the 200-meter dash where she posted a final time of 29.12 to land in 26th place. Anderson led the Big Red in 25th at 28.98.
In the field events, junior Anna Vrancken headlined Denison's efforts in the weight throw and shot put. In the weight throw, Vrancken finished with the seventh-best mark of the day after reaching 13.65 meters. Freshman Tam Dzolic followed in 10th place at 12.68 meters while Leah Ackerman took 12th overall (12.03 meters) and Becca Skolnick finished in 16th place (10.10 meters).
In the shot put, Vrancken paced DU in 11th place with a maximum throw of 33'6" (10.21 meters). Sophomore Ashley Schmoll landed in 12th place at 32'4.25" (9.86 meters) while Dzolic took 15th (29'1.25") and Ellie Blasko followed in 19th place (24'9.25").
Freshman Danielle Wydick rounded out the field events for DU in the pole vault where she claimed a ninth-place finish at 8'11.5" (2.73 meters).
Denison will return to action on Saturday, January 18 when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to compete in the 2020 Snow Globe Invitational at Otterbein University.
