Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – A pair of late goals from Luis Zamora and Ethan Miracle pushed the Big Red ahead in the final moments as Denison men's soccer closed out the 2019-20 campaign with a 2-0 win over Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
Despite losing the shot advantage 13-11, including a 9-4 deficit in the first half, junior goalkeeper Dylan Brown kept the Big Red in as he tallied three of his five saves in the first half. At 10:23, Wooster's Ben Freije attempted a powerful shot toward the top of the net, but Brown saved DU with a punching save that kept the match scoreless through the remainder of the opening frame.
In the second half, the Big Red tallied the first three shots of the half with Miracle and Leo Herard taking aim at the net in the 57th and 58th minutes. Following a DU corner kick in the 84th minute, Zamora accepted a pass from Miracle and ripped a shot in the back of the net to break the scoreless tie and put Denison ahead 1-0.
Less than three minutes later, Miracle joined the scoring party at 86:53 when he buried a helper from Herard to extend the Denison lead to 2-0. Wooster's Manny Burton attempted a shot on goal 57 seconds later, but Brown collected the save as the Big Red earned their seventh win of the season. Wooster finished the 2019-20 campaign at 7-11 and 3-6 in the conference.
Zamora and Miracle tied for the match-high with three shots each, including two on net and a goal. Miracle also added an assist to his three-point effort. Vitor Rocha followed with two shots while Herard, Harrison Netburn, and Tucker Nuzum-Clark each recorded one shot. Wooster's Jack Whitehouse finished with three shots while Connor Hawkins, Bennett Anderson, and Burton all added two shots each.
In net, Brown earned the clean sheet with five saves in a full match effort for DU while Will Collis posted five saves for Wooster in 90 minutes of action.
Prior to the match, Denison recognized seniors Ryan Albers, Eric Buer, Colin Cramer, Luis Hernandez, Matt Rush, and Luis Zamora for their time and dedication to the DU men's soccer program over the last four years.
Denison ended the 2019-20 season at 7-9-1 overall and 4-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
