Denison women's track and field competed at the Kenyon Classic in Gambier, Ohio and the Kent State Tune-Up in Kent, Ohio on Saturday afternoon where they finished in the top-10 eight times and totaled four personal records.
In Gambier, the Big Red were paced by a pair of top-10 finishes from senior Jessica Nix and two new PR's from Danni Gutelius. Nix placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 28'2.75" (8.60 meters) before she reached 4'9" (1.45 meters) on her second jump in the women's high jump event. Fellow senior Hannah Hall won the event with a height of 5'3" (1.60 meters), and Gutelius reached the same jump of 4'9" as Nix, but she added it on her third attempt to place six.
Gutelius also went for a personal-best in the 200-meter event with a 20th place finish in 29.65 and joined Sydney Chandler, Molly Smith and Sydney Lerda in the 4X400 relay with a 4:26.17 in seventh place.
Smith and Lerda also added finishes in 11th and 19th, respectively, in the 800-meter run, with Smith checking in at 2:29.01 and Lerda crossing the finish line in 2:32.14.
At Kent State, Arlesha Cospy headlined the DU field performances with a PR in the weight throw, finding a fifth-place distance of 51'2.75", and also placing 13th in the shot put with a 38'6.75". Anna Vrancken also added a PR in the shot put (27th - 35'9.50") and went for 28th in the weight throw (35'1.75").
Denison also placed in the top-10 in the 5,000-meter run when Anna Fash finished in sixth with an 18:42.84.
The Big Red will return to Granville, Ohio this Friday through Sunday, Feb. 23-25, when they host the North Coast Athletic Conference Last Chance Meet on Friday, followed by the NCAC Combined Events Championships on Saturday-Sunday.
