Box Score Henry Pohlman's goal with 1:51 remaining in the first overtime sent Denison to a 2-1 victory over visiting Marietta College from Piper Stadium. With the win, Denison moves to 1-1 on the season.
The Pioneers attempted only one shot in the first half but they made that shot count as Adam Fox beat the goalkeeper 1v1 after accepting a pass from Taylor Reasoner in the eighth minute of play.
A Marietta foul with eight minutes to play in the first half gave the Big Red a free kick from 21 yards. Junior defender Jasdeep Khaira provided the equalizer off the free kick for his first goal of the season.
DU nearly ended the match in regulation when Jordan Williams blasted a shot from 25 yards that needed a diving save from Marietta keeper Tyler Sholl.
In overtime, the Big Red was on the attack from the onset. In the 92nd minute, Luis Zamora's shot sailed just wide of the goal. The game-winner would come after Pohlman took a pass from Kennedy Kommor. He settled the ball and booted in the golden goal from 26 yards.
Denison outshot Marietta 15-6. They also won the corner kick battle, 7-2. Denison goalkeeper Andrew Shediac posted two saves while playing all 98:09. Sholl recorded five saves while facing seven shots-on-goal.
The Big Red will return to action next weekend (Sept. 10-11) when they travel to Marietta, Ohio for a pair of matches against Westminster and Adrian.
