Skinner's goal forces tie with #25 OWU

Box Score

DELAWARE, Ohio--  Denison's Kyle Skinner scored the tying goal with 20 seconds left in regulation, forcing overtime against 25th ranked Ohio Wesleyan.  The two teams failed to score in overtime, resulting in a 1-1 draw from the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

The Battling Bishops scored the first goal of the match in the 66th minute when Antonio Romanelli found the head of Kyle Baum for his fourth goal of the season.

Denison was outshot 8-3 in the first half, but came on strong in the second, tying OWU, 10-10 in the shot department.

The equalizer developed when Denison's Christian Keiper fired a shot from the top of the box that was blocked by an OWU defender.  The shot attempt caused Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper Ben Farynowski to be out of position.  The ball bounced high into the air after it was blocked and Skinner was there to corral the loose ball and score.

In the two overtime periods, Denison held a 4-2 advantage in shots.  Their best opportunity came with five minutes left in the second overtime when Brenner Bodell made a run up the left side of the field.  Bodell's shot would sail just left of the goal and that ended up being the final shot attempt of the contest.

Ohio Wesleyan (5-1-2, 0-0-1 NCAC) held a 24-22 advantage in shots and an 11-8 advantage in corner kicks.  DU goalkeeper Jack Thomas had eight saves and Kennedy Kommor led with four shots.

Denison returns to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they host Heidelberg at 8 p.m. inside Piper Stadium.
