Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio-- Niklas Martensson's goal with 58 seconds to play in regulation sent Wilmington to a 3-2 win over Denison University from Williams Stadium in Wilmington, Ohio.
The Big Red found themselves with a 2-0 deficit early in the second half after goals by Wilmington's Roman Kirschner and Noah Wallis.
Denison got on the scoreboard when Connor O'Neill-Dee notched his first goal of the season. With 11 minutes to play, DU junior defender Tim Evans provided the equalizer. Just minutes after Evans' goal, Kennedy Kommor served a ball into the zone via a corner kick but Will Kendall's shot sailed high over the crossbar.
In the 90th minute, Wilmington's game-winner came via a corner kick by Benny Spirk to the head of Martensson. That was the final shot of the match as Wilmington improved to 3-1-2 on the year.
Denison (2-3-1) outshot the Quakers 18-9 while holding a decisive 12-2 advantage in corner kick attempts. Alex Miller, Brandon Kozak, Henry Pohlman, O'Neill-Dee and Kommor all finished with two shot attempts for the Big Red.
Kirschner and Martensson accounted for six of Wilmington's nine shot attempts.
Jack Thomas made his first start of the season in goal for Denison. He finished with three saves while playing all 90 minutes. Nick Baker chalked up nine saves while playing all 90 minutes for Wilmington.
Up next, Denison will host Muskingum University on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m. from Piper Stadium.
