Thomas More stuns Big Red in OT

Box Score

Brian Runyon scored the game-winning goal 8:21 into the first overtime, sending Thomas More to a 3-2 win over Denison on Thursday night from Piper Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Big Red stormed back in the opening minutes of the second period.  In the 48th minute, Jake Girardot got his foot on a loose ball in front of the goal to cut the Saint's lead in half.

Just 42 seconds later, Denison's Jordan Williams was tripped in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Big Red.  Williams provided the equalizer, setting the stage for a nip-tuck second half.

Early in overtime, Thomas More's Suly Kayed nearly ended things with a shot that narrowly sailed over the crossbar.  In the 94th minute, Tim Knauer slipped a shot through traffic with an empty net, but his shot slid by the left goal post.

In the 99th minute, Thomas More's Jeremy Stalgl fed a thru ball to Runyon who took the open shot from just inside the 18-yard box.  The shot found nylon, resulting in a golden goal win for the Saints.

Thomas More outshot Denison 16-7.  Andrew Shediac took the loss in goal for DU.  He posted three saves while facing six shots on goal.  Jeff Paulin got the win for TMC.  He tallied two saves while facing four shots on goal.

Williams led Denison in shots with two.  Colin Dean paced Thomas More with four shots while Runyon scored two of TMC's three goals.

The Big Red will look to rebound on Sunday when they host Marietta College at 2 p.m. from Piper Stadium.  The Denison Sports Network broadcast will begin at 1:45 p.m.
