Box Score Denison men's soccer made a triumphant return to Barclay-Thomsen Field with a 3-1 victory over Allegheny College. The Big Red was forced to play their first five home matches of the 2016 schedule on the artificial surface at Piper Stadium. They made the move back to the grass surface on Saturday and it was Kennedy Kommor who came through with two goals, helping Denison even their record in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
In the first half, Denison's first strong scoring opportunity came in the 23rd minute when Will Rudolph's shot was saved by the outstretched hand of Allegheny goalkeeper, David Stekla.
Kommor put Denison on top, 1-0 in the 36th minute when he settled a ball from 25-yard out and chipped the shot over Stekla's head, into the back of the net.
With less than seven minutes to play in the first half, Allegheny's Bryce Evans received a red card for a foul on Denison's Eric Buer. Faced with a man-up situation, Denison's Jake Girardot took a shot that went off the post. He stayed with the play and controlled the rebound, sending a follow-up attempt into the open net.
The Gators responded just before halftime with a goal by Ian Chick.
Denison extended their lead to 3-1 in the 60th minute when Luis Zamora found Kommor for his second goal of the match.
Any chance for a Gator comeback was thwarted in the 75th minute when Allegheny's Aaron Donahoe received his second yellow card of the match, ending his afternoon. That put Denison in a two man-up situation for the remaining 15 minutes of the match.
Denison held a decisive 27-11 advantage in shots and the two teams tied with seven corner kicks.
Jack Thomas got the start in goal for Denison and was relieved by Andrew Shediac after being shaken up in the first half. Shediac played the final 62 minutes for Denison. Thomas posted one save and a team save was also credited in the second half when a shot by Allegheny's Jonas Skattum was cleared away by Buer.
DU improves to 4-5-2 and 1-1-1 in the NCAC while Allegheny drops to 3-7-2 and 1-2 in conference play. The Big Red will be back in action on Tuesday, October 11 when they host Wabash College at 7 p.m. at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
