Lords edge Denison in one-goal contest

Box Score

GRANVILLE -- Oliver Wynn's goal in the 59th minute lifted Kenyon to a 1-0 victory over Denison on Saturday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

The Big Red's best chances came early in the first half. Less than a minute into play, senior Kyle Skinner sent a header just outside the right post. The offensive pressure generated another quality scoring chance, this time by sophomore Luis Zamora. The sophomore forward rifled a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that clanked off the left post. Junior captain Jordan Williams also had a header attempt that went wide off a corner kick attempt.

The score remained tied until 58:59 went Wynn took advantage of a failed clear off a David Anderson corner. Off an attempted header out of the box, Wynn sent a one-time volley into the upper left 90 from roughly 15-yards out for his fifth goal of the year.

Senior Cameron Boone and freshman Eric Buer had back-to-back shot attempts blocked by the Kenyon defense inside the final 10 minutes before the physicality took over. The two squads combined for 30 fouls and nine cards over the course of nine minutes.

Kenyon held a 21-7 advantage in shots while also attempting eight of the game's 11 corners. Of their 21 attempts, seven of the Lords shots were on frame while the Big Red weren't able to register an attempt on goal.

The loss drops Denison to 4-7-2 on the year and 1-3-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Lords improve to 11-2 and 4-1 in the conference. The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wooster, Ohio to take on the Fighting Scots at 4 p.m.
