Box Score HIRAM, Ohio -- Richard Milford's goal in the 64th minute propelled Hiram to a 2-1 victory over the Big Red on Saturday night at Henry Field.
Denison opened the scoring in the 16th minute when freshman Austin Howard sent a cross from the right side to the far post. Howard's classmate Will Rudolph bounced a header into the upper left corner to give the Big Red the early advantage. The goal was Rudolph's team-leading fourth, while Howard collected his first-career assist.
The one-goal lead held up until the 45th minute when Vaal Ngalla slipped a pass to Keanu Shelton who scored with 36 seconds left in the half. Milford broke the tie at 63:33 off an assist from Tyler Helderman. Brenner Bodell nearly pulled the Big Red even, but his shot hit off the post. DU had one last opportunity inside the final minute when they were awarded a free kick roughly 30 yards out. However, Denison couldn't put a shot on net off the set piece.
The Terriers outshot the Big Red 9-5, while also holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Denison goalie Jack Thomas and Hiram netminder Luke Wilhelm each registered one save in the match. Kyle Skinner logged two shots, while Rudolph, Bodell and Jordan Williams registered the other shots.
Denison falls to 3-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Terriers improve to 3-4-2 and 1-1 in conference play. The Big Red returns to action next Saturday when they host Allegheny at 2:30 p.m.
