Box Score Denison junior defender Cameron Boone scored via a corner kick nine minutes into the first overtime. The goal would send the Big Red to a thrilling 1-0 win over Oglethorpe University from the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
The Big Red controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting the Stormy Petrel's 19-6 through the first 90 minutes of play. Oglethorpe goalkeeper Vaughn Moore was busy, posting 12 saves in regulation.
Denison first-year forward Luis Zamora was active in his first career start. He finished with four shots, all of which were sent on-goal. Zamora also served up the game-winning assist via the corner kick in the 99th minute. For Boone, the GWG marked the first goal of his collegiate career.
DU outshot Oglethorpe 22-6 and won the corner kick battle 10-4. Moore finished with 12 saves for Oglethorpe while Denison senior goalkeeper, Blake Schach, ended with three saves.
Denison (1-0) will take on Emory University on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.
