No. 24 Denison downs Heidelberg

Box Score

No. 24 Denison's unbeaten streak continued on Wednesday, following a 2-1 victory over Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.

All three of the goals scored came over a span of just eight minutes early in the second half.  Denison struck first when Max Haupt broke free and converted by beating the keeper to the lower left corner, lifting DU to a 1-0 lead.

Haupt's goal was his first of the season and it came in the 52nd minute.  Six minutes later, Denison's Kennedy Kommor unleashed a shot that was saved by Heidelberg's Jake Kress.  Kommor stuck with it and controlled the rebound, eventually sending a follow-up shot into the goal.

Just 42 seconds after DU took a two-goal lead, Heidelberg's Jacob Hetrick scored via an assist from Jay Sato.

The Berg would come close to tying the match in the 81st minute when Joseph Tallarico took a shot that was saved by Denison goalkeeper Blake Schach who finished the match with three saves.

DU held a 10-7 advantage in shots while both teams tied with six corner kicks apiece.  This match also marked the end of the Big Red's non-conference schedule.  All eight of Denison's remaining regular season matches will be against North Coast Athletic Conference opponents.

The Big Red improve to 8-0-1 with the win and will host Hiram College on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
