Kommor's goal sends DU past Saints

Box Score

Denison junior Kennedy Kommor's unassisted tally in the 49th minute broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Big Red to a 1-0 victory at previously undefeated Thomas More on Sunday afternoon in Crestview Hills, Ky. With the win, Denison improves to 4-0 for the first time since the 2003 season.

The two teams combined for 13 shots in the opening 45 minutes with DU holding an 8-5 advantage in attempts. Both teams put four shots on net, resulting in eight combined saves for Big Red keeper Blake Schach and Thomas More goalie Jeff Paulin.

Just three minutes and 37 seconds into the second period, Kommor finally ended the scoring drought with his third career goal. The Big Red limited the Saints' offense to just three shots over the final 41 minutes en route to their third shutout victory of the season. Of those three attempts, two required a save from Schach, including a header attempt by Alex Panaro with 14 seconds left in the match.

Denison goal scorer Kommor notched a match-best five shots, while Luis Zamora registered two shots. Schach made six saves en route to his second-straight shutout.

RJ Best led Thomas More (3-1) with two shots, while six other players logged a single attempt. Paulin turned aside four shots in a losing effort.

The Big Red will continue their string of three-consecutive road games on Wednesday (Sept. 16) when they travel to Muskingum for a 4 p.m. match.
