The Denison men's tennis team won five of the six singles flight to secure a 7-2 victory over Salisbury University on Thursday afternoon in Claremont, Calif.
The Big Red took two of the three doubles points after winning at second and third. The senior tandem of Casey Cempre and Jeffrey LoDuca edged Demetri Vrahnos and Shanon Gunther via 8-6 decision at No. 2, while Owen Smith and Grant MacPherson picked up their fourth win as a team following an 8-1 victory at the third flight.
Senior Grant Veltman earned his second win at No. 1 singles with a straight-set (6-2, 7-5) win over Daniel Albers. DU's other four victories came at flights three through six. After dropping the opening set 6-1, Jackson O'Gorman-Bean rallied to win the next two 6-3 and 10-6. Freshman Jack O'Koniewski (6-1, 6-2), LoDuca (6-2, 6-1) and Smith (6-2, 6-0) all won in straight sets at flights four, five and six.
Denison improves to 3-6, while the Sea Gulls fall to 7-3. The Big Red wraps up their spring break trip on Friday against 23rd-ranked Trinity (Conn.). Match time is scheduled for 12 p.m. EDT.
