Box Score Claremont, Calif.- A day after experiencing the emotional high of winning the team National Championship, three members of the Denison National Championship Team continued competing in singles and doubles championship play. Juniors Ethan Green, Jacob Patterson, and Kael Shah all qualified for singles play, while Green and Shah also qualified for the doubles championship tournament.
Of the three contenders Kael Shah stretched his season the longest, making his way through his competition all the way to the championship match on Monday, May 26. With doubles play wrapped on Saturday for him and Green and a shortened semifinals match the stage was set for Shah to take on fellow junior Advik Mareedu, who defeated Patterson in the second round.
With a home crowd and court advantage Mareedu jumped ahead early in the first set, ultimately taking set one by a 6-0 decision. In set two Shah continued to struggle to find his rhythm, resulting in dropping set two 6-1.
Despite the loss, Shah capped his third year as a Big Red with bookend runner-up finishes. Earning ITA Runner-Up in doubles play this fall, and this spring with his NCAA Runner-Up finish in singles.
