Denison ties DePauw

Box Score

The season of bonus soccer continued as the Denison played its seventh overtime match in 15 contests.  After 110 minutes from Barclay-Thomsen Field, the Big Red and DePauw Tigers ended with a 2-2 draw.

It was Denison who drew first blood when Luis Zamora fed a pass to Kennedy Kommor who offered a sliding shot that slid in the upper right corner of the goal.

Thirteen minutes later, the Tigers tied the match at 1-1 when Adrian Ables crossed a ball into the box to Julian Gonzalez.  He was the there with the one-timer from 6-yards out, marking the Tigers' first goal of the day.

The match remained tied until the 70th minute when Jordan Williams scored via a penalty kick.  Denison has scored three goals on penalty kicks and all three of those PK's have come from Williams.

In the 77th minute, after back-to-back corner kicks, DePauw's Alieu Musa provided the equalizer with a header off a cross by Ables from the corner.

In the first overtime, Denison came within inches of walking away a winner when Jake Girardot sent a flick from long range that bounced off the far post.

In the second overtime, it was DePauw who came very close to a miraculous finish when Gonzalez's shot with 24 seconds left went just wide of the goal.  DePauw was awarded a corner kick and Zach Hoffman's offering with 12 seconds remaining was cleared out by Denison's Cameron Boone as tie expired.

The Tigers held a 27-16 edge in shots while the Big Red took 10 corner kicks, compared to nine for DePauw.  There were 43 fouls called, with 24 going against the Big Red. Blake Schach posted six saves in goal for Denison while Chris Yount finished with five saves for DePauw.

The Big Red move to 10-2-3 overall and 2-2-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while the Tigers now sit at 9-2-4 and 4-1-2 in league play.  Denison has two regular season matches left on the schedule. On Wednesday, Oct. 28 they will travel to Wittenberg and next Saturday, Oct. 31, they will host Oberlin at 1 p.m.
