Box Score Aaron Donahoe's goal in the 85th minute pushed Allegheny to a 1-0 victory over the previously unbeaten and 25th-ranked Big Red men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Meadville, Pa.
Denison held a 6-3 advantage in shots at the intermission, with four of those six attempts requiring saves from Gator goalie Jake Pugliese. DU continued generate attempts in the second half, but a throw in late in the period resulted in the game's lone goal. Allegheny sent in a throw that found the head of Liam McKersie whose attempt found Donahoe for the finish at 84:26, breaking the scoreless tie.
The Big Red managed three more shots inside the final four minutes of play, but couldn't register an attempt on frame before the final horn sound. Denison outshot Allegheny 14-6 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kennedy Kommor finished with a match-high three shots, while Jordan Williams, Luis Zamora and Christian Keiper each had two attempts. Senior goalie Blake Schach made two saves in 90 minutes between the pipes.
Donahoe's goal came on his only attempt, while reserve Jack Walsh led the Gators with two shots. Pugliese made five saves en route to the win.
The loss drops Denison to 9-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Allegheny improves to 3-6-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. The Big Red continues their three-game road stretch on Wednesday when they take on Wabash. Kickoff from Crawfordsville, Ind. is slated for 4 p.m.
