Box Score Denison and Wilmington played to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night in Wilmington, Ohio. A goal by the Quakers with nine minutes remaining in regulation forced overtime, and the eventual tie.
It was also the Quakers who struck first when Nick Toney netted his fourth goal of the season off a cross from Taylor Estes in the fifth minute of play.
Denison's Bob Casarona would tie the match off a pass from Jamie Wagner in the 34th minute. Then, with less than a minute left on the clock, Blake Miller scored his fourth goal of the season to send his squad into the intermission with a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, shots were few and far between. The two teams combined for just six shot attempts over the final 45 minutes. Wilmington's final shot of the half would be the game-tying goal by Martin Holmquist from Jeff Graham.
In the first overtime, Denison goalkeeper Matt Wagner would notch a save on a shot attempt by Wilmington's Daniel Wicks.
In the second overtime, it was Denison's Mark Waterman who fired a shot on goal that was turned away by Anton Niklasson in the 112th minute. In the final three minutes of the match, Wagner would record his fifth save of the night, on another shot by Wicks.
The final surge would come from Denison as Quinn Miller fired one final shot wide of the Quaker goal with 37 seconds remaining.
With the tie, DU remains unbeaten at 7-0-2. Wilmington's record moves to 2-6-1. DU will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 28) when they travel to Meadville, Pa. for a 5 p.m. start against Allegheny.
