Box Score A penalty kick goal by Ivaylo Mantchev one minute into the first overtime sent Wabash College past Denison University, 1-0, from Crawfordsville, Ind.
Denison nearly averted overtime in the final minute of regulation. Mark Waterman sent a corner kick into the box. In the scrum for the ball, Quinn Miller controlled it and took a shot that was saved Wabash' Dayton Jennings.
In overtime, the Big Red was whistled for a foul in the box in the opening seconds of play, and Mantchev closed the match with his penalty kick goal.
Denison held a slight advantage in shots, 12-10. Six of the Big Red's shots were on frame. Offside calls were frequent, as both teams were flagged on four separate occasions. One occurrence, late in the second half, waived off a would-be Denison goal.
Matt Wagner finished with three saves for Denison. Jennings posted six saves for the Little Giants.
The loss drops Denison's record to 11-3-2, and 4-3 in conference play. Wabash improves to 3-10-2, and 1-5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The Big Red will look to rebound on Wednesday (Oct. 3) when they host top-ranked Ohio Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
